Guayabo National Monument is the largest and most significant archaeological site in Costa Rica. This park contains artifacts, petroglyphs, and structures left by the Pre-Columbian tribes that inhabited this ancient city. On our tour, we will pick you up at your hotel around 8am, arriving at the park about 45 minutes later. Our guide will begin with a brief historical review, after which we will head into the site and begin our trek along the surrounding trails. Our route includes an excellent view from a hill overlooking the archaeological site, as well as a walk past the ancient mounds and roads to more closely examine the ancient structures and petroglyphs. After visiting the park, we will lunch at a local restaurant where we enjoy a delicious typical dish of the area. Afterwards, we will visit a beautiful butterfly garden with a diverse array of species and a knowledgeable guide. What is needed? Shorts or pants, hiking shoes, rain gear, hat, sunglasses, insect repellent and sunscreen. From San Jose the journey is 2 hours to reach the park.
