Our journey begins at about 6a.m. when your guide will pick you up at your hotel. En route to Turrialba we will pass by several different types of coffee and sugar cane plantations, the traditional lifeblood of the region. Beneath a beautiful view of the Turrialba Volcano we will stop to enjoy a delicious, typical breakfast at one of the best restaurants in Turrialba, “La Cocina de Betty”. After breakfast we continue our journey until we reach our starting point on the Pacuare River. Our equipment and the rest of our guides will be waiting there to start our adventure, but not before giving us a thorough safety talk. We will begin our first day of adventure with a 13km stretch of continuous Class II, III and IV whitewater. Your guides will also give you the opportunity to enjoy and educate yourself about the primary and secondary-growth rainforests with several side hikes. Afterwards, we will enjoy a river side lunch to fortify ourselves for the most significant rapids of the day. Shortly after we’ll have to conquer monsters like Casa Blanca and Doble Piso even before reaching the entrance to a canyon and the start of the two most fearsome rapids of the run, Upper and Lower Huacas! If you manage to catch your breath amidst all the action, you’ll be treated to the most dramatic scenery of the entire trip, including an 80ft waterfall that drops directly into the river. Before arriving in camp, you’ll have the opportunity to take some pictures and go for a swim at the end of Huacas canyon. Once in Adrenalina’s Indian camp, we make ourselves comfortable in our rustic cabins, take a tour of the beautiful grounds, and enjoy some delicious costa rican coffee and a snack! For the rest of the evening, the schedule will be up to you: we can swim, walk around exploring the natural beauty, go on a hike to a nearby waterfall, or simply relax and enjoy the scenery. As night falls your guides will cook a delicious dinner and you can sit back, have a few drinks at happy hour, and watch the sky light up over the river. On our second day we will have fortifying breakfast and then plunge into the primary forest trails that take us through diverse flora and fauna to the Indigenous community where members of the Cabecar tribe will greet us and kindly share their culture and lifestyle. This is without a doubt one of the most authentic and genuine encounters with Costa Rican indigenous culture that is available to any traveler. After the fantastic cultural experience we will head back to camp and enjoy lunch before setting off on the second half of our river adventure! The second day of the trip is a 13km stretch of whitewater including such memorable rapids as Pinball, Guatemala, Cimarrones, and Dos Montañas. You’ll know it’s time to relax when the group enters a dramatic but tranquil canyon, where you can enjoy a dip in the river or perhaps a waterfight. From there, it’s a quick trip to our facility in Siquirres, where we will prepare to return to San José, but not before a delicious lunch, arriving in San Jose by 5:30 or 6:00 pm.
